Paper game
Paper Game is a gambling minigame on DonutSMP that uses two Minecraft dispensers and a lever to generate random numbered outcomes. The game rose to prominence in mid-2025 after being popularized by multiple streamers on TikTok and YouTube as a fast and effortless way to generate large amounts of in-game currency. It is widely regarded as the most well-known and most played gambling game on the server, surpassing other formats such as blackjack, horse racing, 50/50, and similar player-run games.

Mechanics
The standard setup consists of:
- Two dispensers
- A lever connected to both dispensers
- 9 renamed items inside each dispenser, labeled 1–9
- One dispenser represents the host’s side, and the other represents the player’s (viewer’s) side.
- When a player participates, they first pay the host an agreed amount of money. The host then flicks the lever. Since Minecraft dispensers output a random item from their inventory, each side produces a random number between 1 and 9.
Win Conditions
- If the player’s number is higher, the host pays the player double their bet.
- If the host’s number is higher, the host keeps the money.
- In most versions, a tie (e.g., 5 vs 5) counts as a win for the host.
Probability and House Edge
Each side has 9 possible outcomes, creating total possible combinations
- Player wins (player number > host number): 36 outcomes
- Host wins (host number > player number): 36 outcomes
- Ties: 9 outcomes
Because ties typically count as host wins:
- Player win rate: 36 / 81 ≈ 44.44%
- Host win rate (including ties): 45 / 81 ≈ 55.56%
This gives the host an 11.12 percentage point statistical advantage.
Expected Value
If a player bets 1,000,000:
- 44.44% chance to gain 1,000,000 (net profit)
- 55.56% chance to lose 1,000,000
Over time, the player loses an average of 11.12% per bet, making the game profitable for hosts in the long run.
History and Rise in Popularity
Paper Game became widely known in mid-2025 when several DonutSMP streamers began hosting it live on TikTok and YouTube streams. Short clips showing rapid wins, large bets, and dramatic reactions significantly accelerated its spread. Because the game requires minimal setup and no complex mechanics, it quickly became the default gambling format across the server. While other games such as Blackjack and 50/50 variants existed, none matched the simplicity, speed, and scalability of Paper Game. As a result, it became the dominant gambling activity on DonutSMP.
Wealth Concentration
Due to the built-in house edge and high betting volume, large amounts of money were transferred from regular players to hosts. Many of the server’s wealthiest players either hosted or heavily participated in Paper Game.
Billionaire Inflation
The rise of Paper Game coincided with a dramatic increase in the number of players surpassing 1 billion in-game currency. Where reaching 1 billion had previously been rare, it became far more common within months. At one point, holding 1 billion would place a player only around 11,000th on the leaderboard, demonstrating how significantly overall wealth levels had increased.
Economic Effects
The gambling-driven flow of currency altered the perceived value of money on the server and raised the standard for what was considered “rich.”
Controversy

The guy who hates Paper Game
Paper Game has been controversial within the community.
Some staff members including archivePedro have voiced opposition due to concerns that the widespread presence of gambling mechanics could create the perception that the server promotes gambling.
In contrast, DrDonut, the owner of DonutSMP, stated during a stream that he does not particularly care about the presence of the game on the server.
This disagreement reflects broader debates about server image, economic balance, and ethical considerations.
