Spawners on DonutSMP are special blocks that produce mob drops without spawning entities, a system used to provide resource output without causing server lag. Spawners are purchased using shards, the server’s secondary currency.
Usage
When placed in the world, a spawner can be right‑clicked to access its stored drops, similar to opening a chest. They are distinct from natural mob spawners in standard Minecraft and act as passive sources of items rather than mob generators. Players can “stack” multiple instances of the same spawner type in one block by holding shift and right‑clicking, which increases output but also concentrates valuable resources in one location. This practice is risky, because many player hunt for bases, trying to raid farms and stashes in order to gain and sell the gathered loot.
Types of spawners
There are eight recognized spawner types, each associated with producing specific items. The types and their outputs are:
| Mob | Drops | New shard price | Old shard price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pig | Raw porkchop | 1500 shards | 250 shards |
| Cow | Raw beef | 1500 shards | 350 shards |
| Spider | Spider eye, String | 1500 shards | 750 shards |
| Zombified Piglin | Gold nugget | 1500 shards | 400 shards |
| Skeleton | Bone, Arrow | 1500 shards | 500 shards |
| Blaze | Blaze powder | 1500 shards | 1000 shards |
| Creeper | Gunpowder | 1500 shards | 625 shards |
| Iron Golem | Iron ingot | 1500 shards | 1500 shards |
Economic value
Spawners are popular for generating items that can be sold or used in crafting and are often considered a form of economic investment in the server’s market. Skeleton spawners, for example, tend to be among the most valuable due to the reliability of bones and arrows in the economy.
Trivia
- DonutSMP uses a plugin called Smart Spawners for their spawners
- The blaze spawner only produces Blaze powder. Blaze rods can be bought from the shop
